“Too many companies emulate the leader and try to be better, when they should avoid the leader and try to be better.”

House of Blues to Host
Free Workshop to Help
Nonprofits Regain Status

Nonprofit Develop Alliance to Provide Expert Assistance

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., July 13, 2011 - Nonprofit Development Alliance(NDA), supporting the nonprofit community and helping them reach their full potential, announces that House of Blues in Hollywood will host a free workshop to help nonprofits regain their IRS status. The workshop will be held on Friday, July 22, from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m.

”Earlier this month, the IRS revoked the status of 275,000 nonprofits across the country, including 3,400 in Los Angeles County and 2,200 in Orange County,” said Norm Bour, community relations and CMO for NDA. “We will be conducting workshops with nonprofits that have lost their status to explain how and why it happened, what the options are now, and how to prevent it from happening again.”

Recent changes in federal tax laws require that all nonprofits file a 990 form with the IRS, to verify their status. If any nonprofit organization did not file a 990 over the past three years, the IRS revoked their nonprofit status. This change in nonprofit status also means that individual donations to the organization are no longer tax deductible.

”The IRS is now trying to verify the status of all nonprofit organizations,” Bour said. “The law used to be that nonprofits with an annual gross income of $25,000 or less were not required to file a 990 form, but that has changed. However, those organizations with annual gross income of up to $50,000 can file online.”

NDA is planning to conduct this workshop again over the coming weeks in Long Beach, Pasadena/Glendale, the San Fernando Valley, and Orange County.

I cross-referenced the dates the press releases went out versus web hits and there is definitely a correlation. The visitors usually double within a day or so of the releases going out. So, they are working and driving people to us.
